POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Counselor
DIVISION: Summer Camp Series
REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt; Part-Time; Starting at $13.
00 per hour
HOURS: Monday – Friday 6:30am-6:30pm (8-hour shift within these hours)
Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to work within a team at a site-specific level.
This position will engage with children ages 5-15, to work as part of a team whose purpose is to create and facilitate enrichment activities competently and enthusiastically.
The Counselor will provide a safe, enriching, and character-driven environment for participants enrolled in the Summer Camp Series program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Create, organize, and facilitate a variety of daily enrichment activities, including but not limited to physically active and non-active options.
Consistently model and guide participants in character development through actions, activities, and dialogue.
With team, implement detailed activity plans for site-specific camp using established templates and guidelines.
Implement and model respect for all spaces and materials used, ensuring they are well maintained and left as found, including buses and field trips
With team, supervise up to 100+ children, ages 5-15, throughout all aspects of the daily program.
Attend and participate in professional development meetings and trainings.
Use excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, parent/guardians, and all members of the general public.
Enforce applicable rules and regulations with program participants.
Ensure adherence to established safety procedures; monitor work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Follow program structure, including individual success plans, to decrease disruptive participant behaviors and increase positivity and safety.
Provide CPR/AED/first aid, as needed.
Use Verbal Intervention, Stewards of Children and QPR skills, as needed.
Ensure first aid supplies and emergency equipment are in order and accessible.
Maintain reliable attendance to maintain safety and the staff to child ratio.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Perform other related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Basic typing, Internet, Word, and Excel skills.
Reliable and organized, on time and accurate with paperwork and daily schedules.
Capable of creatively problem-solving under pressure, both as part of a team and independently.
Enthusiastic and flexible about both learning and teaching new skills.
Able to act consistently as a role model and guide for behavior and character development.
Interact and communicate in a positive, professional manner with team, participants, and public.
Ability to confidently and effectively manage participant behavior in a positive, respectful manner at all times.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions during periods of high volume and under pressure from the public.
Ability to maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Ability to positively adhere to and enforce Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation policy and procedures; implement emergency plans.
Ability to work within moderate to loud environments associated with childcare.
Ability to work in the outdoor environment, with exposure to weather, cold, heat, wind.
Ability to provide first aid, CPR/AED, and other skills, in a calm, professional manner.
Ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and that might involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Must be at least 16 years of age and have access to reliable transportation.
Must possess or be willing to acquire First Aid and CPR/AED.
Preference to possess Stewards of Children, QPR and Verbal Intervention certification and maintain certification.
(ESE/SCS will provide training opportunities for all required trainings & certifications)
Must Complete Prior to Starting with Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation
Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state and local searches.
Must clear the National Sex Offender Public website.
