Bus Driver Location: Cottage Home Salary: Minimum Base $35,000 Position Type: Full-Time, Salary-Exempt Role and Responsibilities Reporting to the School Principal, the school bus driver is responsible for bringing children to and from school, ensuring timely pick-up and safe drop-off in the process.
Bus routes may be in highly populated, high-traffic urban areas; on the other end of the spectrum, routes may be in very rural areas with poor road conditions.
The bus driver is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
The school bus driver must obtain the required Indiana licensure and must keep a clean driving record, provide a police record check and pass drug and alcohol tests upon employer request.
Apart from driving, integral skills to have include patience, attentiveness to your environment and effective decision-making.
Responsibilities Transport children to and from school.
Pick up children along scheduled routes at the same time every day.
Before stopping, operate stop sign and flashing lights on bus to alert traffic.
Pick up students in the morning and return them home or to the designated bus stop in the afternoon.
Check the bus tires, lights, and oil and do other basic maintenance.
Pick up and drop off kids at designated locations.
Follow a planned route on a time schedule.
Help disabled children get on and off the bus.
Ensure children stay in their seats at all times.
Separate and report unruly children to the Principal.
Follow traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations.
Follow safety procedures to make sure that all kids are safe.
Keep passengers and School Administration informed of possible delays.
Listen to alerts about bad weather.
Carefully navigate roads and watch for ice, debris, or slippery spots.
Report accidents immediately to Law Enforcement, Paramount Police Chief and Principal.
Call police during an emergency.
Work at school in other occupations as needed, such as janitor, front office, cafe, or mechanics, between morning and afternoon trips.
Drive students to field trips, sporting events, and other activities.
Enforce rules regarding conduct.
Annual training and/or professional development is required for all PSOE employees.
Job-specific training is identified and scheduled by the School Principal or direct supervisor in partnership with Paramount C-suite.

The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The bus driver will drive a standard electric school bus and 100% travel is expected.
Working from an off-site location may be necessary.
General work hours range from 6:30 a.
m.
- 6:30 p.
m.
Monday-Friday.
Work hours may vary based on School/Network events.
