The Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC) and the Regenstrief Institute are jointly seeking a research leader in clinical cancer informatics.
This leader is expected to work across academic units (e.
g.
, schools, departments, research centers) to advance cancer informatics research at IUSCCC, including the informatics infrastructure that facilitates basic, clinical, and population-level cancer research.
The endowed chair was established with support from the Walther Cancer Foundation and the Regenstrief Foundation.
The potential high impact cancer research areas include (but not limited to):
· Clinical, biomedical, public health, and translational informatics methodology development;
· Health data science methodology research on data from heterogeneous sources such as EHR, social determinants, imaging, molecular, and social media;
· Health-related AI research with applications such as natural language processing (NLP), large language models, imaging, and data integration;
· Data-driven health equity, health disparities, and algorithmic bias research;
· Data models, ontology, interoperability, and standards; and
· Real-world data and real-world evidence methodology (e.
g.
, causal inference) and applications including health service outcomes.
The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD or MD with a strong track record in obtaining extramural funding, publishing in high impact venues, and promoting diversity and equity.
The successful candidate is expected to be an Indiana University (IU) faculty member on the Indianapolis campus and an investigator at the Regenstrief Institute as well as a member of the IUSCCC.
The school and department appointment within IU will depend on the background and expertise of the candidate.
In addition, this candidate will work closely with the Chief Information Officer of Regenstrief Institute, the Regenstrief Institute Data Service (RDS), and the IUSCCC Associate Director for Data Science in developing strategies on data infrastructure to support cancer research and development on campus.
Regenstrief Institute is an internationally recognized leader in clinical informatics and IUSCCC is the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the State of Indiana.
In addition, the IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the nation and the Richard M.
Fairbanks School of Public Health is the first school of public health in the state.
