This position supports Eastern Alliance, our workers' compensation line of business.
Eastern Alliance offers its team members a fully flexible work arrangement where team members report to an office as needed to build relationships and attend special meetings and events.
To fulfill the travel needs of the position and fostering of relationships with direct reports, our preference is for this position to be based in Carmel IN; however, will consider qualified candidates based in Kentucky, Tennessee, or Michigan as well.

We may fill this position at the Manager OR Director level, depending upon qualifications of the selected candidate.
Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing all of the necessary duties to profitably and effectively manage the direction of underwriting activities for assigned territories and overall performance, as well as the growth and direction of assigned underwriting territories.
As a member of the Regional Management team, participates in developing and executing strategic plans to maximize the effectiveness of underwriting operations and the Business Units in support of all company business objectives.
Essential Functions: 30% - Execute management functions for the assigned territories and books of business; provide technical guidance and direction to the unit on underwriting procedures, policies and standards.
Communicate with other members of the underwriting leadership team to ensure consistency in procedures, policies and standards.
Closely monitor results and accomplishment of business objectives.
Review and distribute monthly reports; evaluate unit results, make recommendations and adjustments when necessary; assist with annual business planning and in developing units initiatives.
Monitor competitor products and activities and make recommendations to stay competitive within market.
20% - Provide referral underwriting expertise for unit; review files in order to provide guidance and development on underwriting strategies and adjust underwriting authorities when appropriate.
Audit files to ensure compliance with company standards.
Underwrite business to support staff during peak work periods or staffing shortages.
15% - Directly oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned territories; provides guidance, support and growth opportunities to staff; establish performance objectives for all direct reports; provide regular feedback, conduct annual performance reviews and develops meaningful development plans.
Monitor staff workloads and make recommendations for additions to staff or structure changes.
10% - Effectively manage other operations as assigned (e.
g.
unite® Business Unit, Product Management).
5% - Develop and manage the expense and revenue budgets for assigned territories and staff.
5% - Participate in developing and executing Company strategic plans and objectives; develop plans and objectives for the underwriting operation.
Secondary Functions: 5% - Actively develop and cultivate strong agency relationships and mentor team to do the same, supporting agency management, visiting agents on a regular basis and monitoring agency results monthly.
5% - Provide supervision, coaching, mentoring and career development to staff; participate in hiring of new staff; facilitate and conduct orientation for new staff members; coordinate formal developmental training programs, assign staff to special projects and oversee workflow of staff.
Execute the disciplinary process as needed.
5% - Facilitate and create a positive team environment within the unit and entire underwriting operation; facilitate monthly team meetings, unit meetings, and others as necessary; facilitate active engagement, cooperation and communication with underwriting, claims, finance, MIS, marketing and risk management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ten years of progressive experience in the insurance industry including underwriting, account management, agency management.
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
3 years of supervisory/leadership experience is required.
Advanced industry designation is strongly preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with various constituencies and at all levels, internally and externally.
Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues.
Ability to assess the urgency and importance of a situation and take appropriate action.
Highly developed organizational, planning and management skills and the ability to lead people and get results through others.
Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, high ethical standards, good judgment and strong operational focus.
Solid analytical and problem solving skills, including formulating logical and objective conclusions.
Ability to analyze the competitive markets, identify trends and make recommendations to remain competitive in market.
Ability to professionally represent the organization with major policyholders and agencies.
Ability to attend insurance and industry/business functions to promote and present a positive image of the Company; ability to participate in presentations; ability to travel as necessitated by business needs.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to drive long distances to reach client/agency sites.
Requires the exposure to various manufacturing, industry and business environments where certain requirements regarding the use of personal protective equipment may be necessary; the ability to inspect various types of risks and independently evaluate according to company standards.
Position Salary Range $108,218.
00 - $178,577.
00 The salary range displayed represents the entirety of the pay grade for this position.
Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
