JOB
Incumbent serves as Recreation Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department, responsible for developing, planning, promoting, implementing, and supervising department recreation programs and special events, and overseeing revenue generating facilities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Supervises and directs assigned personnel, including interviewing applicants, hiring and preparing related paperwork, planning/making work assignments, coordinating cross-training, providing corrective instruction, evaluating performance, and maintaining discipline.
Develops, plans, schedules, coordinates, and implements diversified recreation programs, including assessing citizen needs/ interests, developing long-range plans, evaluating programs/activities, and making policy and procedural changes as needed.
Coordinates all off-site programming areas.
Assists in scheduling and coordinating use of park facilities.
Manages cost center locations such as the Carousel and the Ice Rink.
Supervises and participates in the development, planning, scheduling, implementation, and coordination of special events within the Parks Department, and those in collaboration with the City, other Parks Departments, and outside groups.
Develops and maintains staff training curriculum and manual for summer and part-time recreation staff, including the Parks Department mission, program outcomes, child development, liability issues, program safety (in loco parentis), educational goals in accordance with the Indiana academic standards, recreation theory and administration, and professional practices in day camp and recreational programming.
Supervises and participates in the development, planning, scheduling, coordination, and facilitation of programing, events, and rentals, assisting the Recreation Program Coordinators as necessary.
Promotes recreation programs throughout the community by making public speaking presentations, developing brochures, fliers, newsletter, social media content, and providing information for news media releases.
Processes program registrations.
Serves as department liaison with other recreation service agencies, and represents department at various community activities.
Operates all recreation programs in accordance with national standards as set by the American Camp Association and the National Recreation and Park Association.
Receives and investigates public complaints regarding recreation programs and personnel, and initiates appropriate action to resolve valid complaints.
Administers recreation budget, including general and grant funds, monitoring revenue and expenditure records, and ensuring cost-effective operations within assigned budget.
Assists in researching and developing alternate funding sources, such as grants, advertising, sponsorships, donations, and public/private partnerships, collecting appropriate information and preparing various grant applications, assists in submitting to funding agencies and administration/ monitoring of funded grant programs.
Prepares annual report of recreation activities, and assists in preparing annual department budget, including projecting payroll and other costs, and making recommendations to Director.
Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the recreation field by periodically attending seminars/workshops.
Regularly assists department office personnel as needed.
Serves on 24-hour call for emergencies.
